Our 1950 Commodore tends to pop out of the reverse gear, requiring us to hold the gear shift in place while in reverse. Any other experiences with the same problem? We're not quite sure what the problem might be.
Keith, we have any clutch parts and pieces you may need. You can find all of them at wrphet.com
I am assuming your car is equipped with overdrive?. When it pops out of reverse, simply pull the o/d engagement cable out, should stop the problem. Because of the design and combination of age, the spring in the O/D lever inside the trans., is stronger than the shift gate detent springs at this point, pulling the lever out-locking it out of O/dr., compresses the spring in the O/dr., thus allowing the standard shift gate springs and detents to work fine.
If your car isn't overdrive, I don't know what to suggest.
