Where can I obtain some 1950s Hudson Model Cars, preferably1/18 Scale? I presently have four of the Highway 61 die cast cars and would like to find other high quality models. Rob Edwards 281-492-6249

Hi Rob,
This reply is for general information not to imply you don’t know what you want

Unfortunately the number of 1/18 scale models is pretty much limited to the Highway 61 coupes and convertibles. The same models have been sold under several brand names and color schemes including race car tributes. The most notable exception are the couple versions of Marx cars (Dick Tracey, Fire Chief, etc.) and the first Stepdown promo distributed by Hudson.

More plentiful are the smaller 1/43 models. There are many Hudson and Terraplane cars as well as Hudson pickups and sedan deliveries replicated in this scale from the 1930’s through 1957.

One of my favorite mail order houses for Hudson models is Bob Hooper at http://dominionmodels.com/. Several model collectors in the club buy through him. He is a Hudson fan who can keep you informed of new releases

Hope this helps a bit

Lew

Thanks Lew. One of the reasons I am interested in these model cars is that my dad owned three hudsons. A grey 4 door 1946, a two tone green 4 door 1949, and a maroon top and crème colored bottom 1952 4 door Hudson Hornet. My favorite was the Hornet which my dad loved to drive fast on country black top roads.

Thanks for your help and the beautiful picture of a 1952 Hudson Hornet Convertible..

Rob, a nice group of cars he owned some of the most popular Hudson cars

Motor City made both 2 tone and single color 1949 Hudson 4 door sedans. The two tone were issued in blue as well as green (and possibly others). As far as I know, they have been out of production for a while. Here is a picture of the blue one I have.

Here is a pic of one of the single color ones I have

They show up on eBay from time to time.
Now, be ready for wallet shock. They are expensive when compared to the 1/18th scale cars. They sold for $200 and up when new. Resale’s can be less but they ar fairly collectible so wait for your price.

I don’t have a 46 4 door in my collection. So, here is a photo of s 42 Commodore 4 dr. It was made by Western Models. They were a bit less expensive 1/43 model which was available in different colors.

There are a few minor differences in the exterior between a 42 and a 46. The most obvious is the shape of the grill. 42’s are flat across while 46’s have a recess in the center.

I’m not aware of a 46 4dr from any manufacturer but that isn’t to say there hasn’t been one. I haven’t kept abreast of the new releases for about 2 years. So there might have been a recent release.

Hope this helps

Lee

52’s are one of the most modeled years. There are convertible, coupes and Hollywood hardtops in 1/43rd. Unfortunately, I am not aware of a 4 door. But, again, someone else might know of one.

In all the cars you mentioned, there have been coupe and convertibles produced in 1:43rd scale. Sedans, in models, like in the real cars, just don’t bring the money so few companies take the time to model them. Most of the sedans came about when the company ran through the profits of the 2 dr versions and, to squeeze a bit more out of the moulds, retooled them to make a sedan. For that reason there are not many sedan models.

Well, good luck in your quest. Maybe someone else will chime in with more information

Thanks Lew
I also have a Marshall Teague #6 1/18 Scale 1952 Fabulous Hudson Hornet Race Car from Highway 61 and a Tim Flock 1952 Hudson Hornet #91 1/43 scale race car from the Chrysler Corporation. I occasionally like to work on detailing these model cars in my spare time trying to improve their authentic looks.

Thanks Again for your help and the Hudson pictures you sent, and have a great day!
