I have been looking at bearing catalogs online and I am not able to find the answers I'm looking for. Can anyone tell me the difference between bearing number 25877 and 25877T ? How about the difference between bearing race (cup) 25821 and 25820 ? This is for my 48 Super Six

Thanks for your help fella's!

Your '48 needs the "T" bearing.

Mike, your car uses the 'T" or tapered bearing as did all Hudsons rear ends up to the early 1952 production year. the 25877T bearing has not been made by either Timken or Bower in about 40-50 years. If you do find a pair they will either be NOS or decent used. The 25877 bearing is still around and is the Spicer/ Dana 44 rear end axle bearing.

Ken Ufiel has these bearings and is usually on here. I’m sure he will answer.

Hello again Lance. Thanks for the info. I have cancelled the non-"T" bearing order. My bearings were not giving any trouble. I just thought I'd replace them while I have my rear axle apart, because I noticed some etched lines in the outer race due to sitting for 40 years. I can't really feel the lines and there appears to be no damage to the bearing although it's pretty hard to look inside them. I think for now, I will re assemble using the new outer races (cups) and pick up some "T" bearing for future use.

Mike that likely is a good idea. I've sold some of those 'T' bearings over the years but they all have been used. Very decent but used. Last time I checked and saw origional Timken 28577T bearings I think they went for about $350-400 a set! If you have decent bearings , wash them and lube them. It's not often that those go bad unless the car has been abused or sitting for a long time in unfavorable conditions. Plenty of other things would likely cause a Hudson to be parked.
