Hey all my new baby is home ( 50 commodore 6) !

Pardon my language but the wiring is an absolute shit storm ! To the point it may very well be easier to use one of the new painless harnesses I have sitting around and convert to 12v at the same time .

Question I have is - for those of you that had to gut , rewire and convert. Were there any things you came across to watch out for ? Things of note ?

Thanks in advance

Mike, I've rewired a number of stepdowns and really the 1950 model is not that bad. remove the face panels and speedo on the dash and it really helps. having a driver side dash glove box door is another plus. If you were going to an origional reproduction either Rhode Island Wiring or Y and Z will do just fine. I do stock only. If you really want fun and giggles try the 1954 Hudson.

Thank you - I can’t reLly swing $1400 for a wiring harness . I will likely just use the painless harness I have .

Does anyone happen to have a wiring diagram for the OD system for a ‘50 ? My solenoid looks like this .

Here's one for the '50 and later cars, Mike. Ignore the text . . it relates to 12v conversion. <img src=" https://wordpress.hetclub.org/wp-content/uploads/wpforo/attachments/OD Cntrl - std KD.doc]

What you pictured appears to be a governor, not the OD solenoid. Your transmission rear-end picture does not show the OD solenoid (which should be on the opposite side of this governor. The link below shows a very dirty 1950 OD transmission with attached wire harness. The top-right module is the governor. The cylinder attached to the wiring, resting in the dirt, is the solenoid.

The gentleman that runs the site link below has done a fine job providing answers to questions like yours through his collection of technical data (look in his "Transmission" section):

Aw crap I was led astray .... looks like I may have to go looking for an OD trans .

If I end up keeping this one for a bit , does the govenor need to be hooked up ?

Mike, I'm pretty sure that that governor is for a Drive Master tranny not an overdrive tranny.
