Is the crossmember that the rear engine mount bolts to strong enough to support a 308? Or does it need to be reinforced.
Thanks for any and all help.

The splasher 8 was heavier than the 308. Should be fine.

Have you had that car pictured for a long time? Did you buy it from Country Classics in Illinois? Looks like one that used to be in the Grand Rapids Michigan area.

Ditto what Ric said, cross-member is plenty strong. We have done numerous of these conversions and have never had a problem with the cross-member If you are installing this engine into that '42, you will need to modify the block a little to allow for clearance at the steering gear. If the car was an 8 cyl. originally, this makes the cups needed for the frt. engine mounts already located where they need to go, if it was a 6 cyl. car, removing the radiator will expose the place where the cups go for your conversion. Also, if orig.a 6, drill the cups off the 6 cyl.engine mounting adapters. These will need to be removed from the frame before you can install this combination. I would recommend installing a new pair of upper and lower engine mounts. We have found the easiest way to do this is to bolt the rear support plate on the block along with the bell-housing and new transmission mount, install it into the hole. With the engine still hanging on the engine crane, slide it into place, best as possible, paying close attention to lining up the transmission mount. Lining up the trans.mount where it goes will make all the other components from the bell-housing back, all standard parts, no mods needed. A header also makes the Hornet motor really perform in this lighter body! We build a custom collector for the exhaust, an run a 2.5 out where ever you want to exit out. Hope this helps.

Yes , I bought the car at Country Classic Cars. It is in amazing shape , worst part of the car is paint, even that is not too bad.
Thanks for the info on the crossmember. Found an address on a new tire in the car and contacted that address, was the son of the former owner, They sold it in around 2011, they were the 2nd owner, don't know how many people owned it before I bought it. Had a NY state inspection sticker on it and came with a FL title.

Was the finest original pre step down Hudson I have ever seen, Very sorry you have to change engines.
Was it an overdrive equipped car? I don't remember. Do you plan to change the rear axle for a better highway ratio?
Do you have the matching bell housing for the 308?

Keep us updated on your progress.

It didn't have OD, but I am going to put in an od transmission. I have all the necessary parts to put it together, hopefully in will be in and running by the end of the month. The original engine came with a cracked head, and ran HOT. replaced the head and it still ran HOT, but I still managed to put a few thousand miles on it. It is a nice car to drive. I grew up with Hudsons . This one looks better than the ones we had in the early sixtys. All the ones we had with the splasher 6 , the engines were either out and apart of knocking like crazy. The only good engine we had was a straight 8.
