I'm repairing the taillight assemblies on my '51 Club Coupe and I want to add directionals. But only one of my tail light sockets is stock.
The other is some aftermarket item like a Dorman or some such. The owners manual says the taillights and directionals both use 1174 dual element bulbs. I suppose this could be if you used used one element of the two. In any event I need three sockets. Does anyone know a source? They are unusual looking items. They actually stand the bulb just at the hole in the backing plate but not clear through into the housing. I have no idea why.

Dean, How many do you need? I have both single element sockets and dual element sockets. Which ones do you need?

I need one dual and two single. So do I understand correctly that Hudson suggested using a dual filament 1174 (I think that’s the number) bulb in a single element socket? I’m still confused about that.

Dean, on cars with factory turn signals, a single element socket was used on the lower tail light socket plate. That would be a # 1129 bulb. On the upper socket for driving and brake light , a dual element bulb was used # 1154. If you need to contact me call Seven zero four 792 9110 or email at HEThornetllw@yahoo.com. Thank you very much for clarifying that. I'm on the road on family business and I'll contact you in about ten days. Thank you again. I can't wait to solve these wiring problems.
