I have to replace the window on the back door of my 53 Hornet 4-dr. I have the body manual and it seems to say just take off the garnish molding and the wood block and it then comes out. This seems too easy. How do you disassemble the window from the mechanism that raises and lowers the window. Do you take off the inner door panel to disconnect the window? What else should I know?
Thanks for the help.

Ed, yes it can be done this way. As described, remove the window garnish, remove the wood block screwed on with I think 3 screws. If it still has the original window weatherstrip, it is attached at the top with clips, with the window down most of the way, pull the clips down from the edge of the door frame, pull the weatherstrip outwards, then pull up on the complete weatherstrip channel. You might have to wiggle it a bit, but pull it out completely. Now the window will be loose in the frame, be careful rolling the window up by the crank, cranking it pass its normal travel point. By over traveling it, you will be able to slide the window forward about 1 in.or less to remove it from the track. Sometimes it is kind of hard to get the window to slide out because the rubber flap on the window setting is hard as a rock, and not pliable. Now, if you are replacing the weatherstrip, with the window out, test fit the weatherstrip channel if you need to. You have to slightly bent this to get it in the track on the front and rear, so try not to twist and/or bend it much. If it fits to your approval, pull it back out, now re-install the window, making sure you have it locked into the track. NOTE, if you have replaced the glass, make sure you have located the track on the glass in the correct location. If you have replaced the setting channel with a new one, you will find the flap that seals much easier to push into position. If not, it can and will likely cause re-installation problems. Also, when replacing the glass, MAKE sure to NOT mix the tracks up, they are all location specific. It is best to do one at a time or mark them very clearly, allowing no mistakes. With the window cranked down most of the way, re-install the weatherstrip, making sure you have it started in the tracks on both the front and rear slots. Work the weatherstrip carefully as you apply pressure pushing it back into position. Once it is totally in the groove, push the weatherstrip back into the window frame of the door, roll up the window to make sure of smooth travel, re-install the wood block and window garnish.
Doug.
Thanks for the detailed response. I'm sure it will help a lot. By the way, the 2 Carter 968's I got from you last winter are working fine. What a difference.

Thanks Ed for your support. We have been working on doing online "How To" video's. This eats and needs a bunch of space and time, but we still plan to do it. We are just trying to figure out the best way. I know Matt R. will be pulling the remainder of his hair out soon trying to make it happen!!
