I can hear the voices all wondering to what 🙂

The underlying engine that runs the website has been upgraded as the first part of a move towards newer background processes.

What's the effect to me is going to be the next question (if you've read this far of course).

The answer to that is absolutely nothing should change in the way in which you experience the site. I have done as much testing as possible but , of course, there is always something somewhere that slips the net.
