Hello, [ebay][/ebay]
I have just gotten the car driveable and in the process of finding a vin #. I'm beginning to wonder even what model I have? I was originally thinking I had a commodore, but I think I'm wrong.
Also, do y'all have any suggestions on getting a vin/serial #
Thanks
I think you have gotten a number of good answers to your question over at the Classiccar Hudson Forum.
Since both this forum and the Classiccar one have substantially the same viewers, I'd put my money on what has been suggested at the latter one. But possibly there might be one or two people here (at the H-E-T one) who could add some insight to the matter.
I realize I got some answers on classic car.....it was mentioned that I might get more info or suggestions here....I'm just coming to believe I wasted money by joining this site.
If you paid money to join this site, then you joined the H-E-T Club. Believe me, that was not wasted money, and the majority of Classiccar forum members (who are mostly H-E-T members) would agree.
As a Club member you have full use of this site (which free, limited-use members do not), you will receive the Club's magazine six times yearly, you have use of the (physical) Club library, and you get a printed roster -- among other benefits.
Classiccar has been the only Hudson forum since the late 90's and consequently has built a huge following -- most of them H-E-T members. This (H-E-T) forum has only been around since the Club website began a couple years ago, and already has almost 700 members. We love the Classiccar forum but this (H-E-T) one has many more subject categories and it's run by Hudson enthusiasts for Hudson enthusiasts -- not as a commercial enterprise. Should the other forum ever close down -- as it did once when the predecessor operation ceased to exist -- this one will continue to purr along. I have no doubt that this H-E-T forum will grow.
I found a couple of Colorado titles for a 49 that are from the 50's. You can have them for free. I don't know if you will be able to use them or not since they are really old. Since you are now a member of the club, blank serial tags are available from the club store for a nominal fee. I would buy a few of them.......easy to mess up when stamping numbers in them.
Don
Thanks for the replies. I guess I took it the wrong way when you mentioned I had answers on the classic car forum....
Don, what do you think would be involved in using one of the 49' serial numbers? Any risky business? I know everybody sais to never stamp your own numbers, personally I don't see any harm in using a number that has been long gone in order to title another car that is missing old numbers.
Thanks for the help in advance
I thought that you were asking what model this was, but I guess you're trying to figure out what VIN number to title it as. As to model it is either a 48 or 49 Super Six or Super Eight. If you have engine, and pictures of interior, we could determine year and model exactly. There are numbers stamped on the frame.
Where on the frame (or anywhere else) are the numbers stamped? I don't own a "modern Hudson" but I know that the serial number is stamped on the top of the rear axle housing in the late thirties Hudsons, and also on the passenger side frame around where the front axle intersects it. I assume there are one or more such places in the StepDowns as well.
Yes I'm asking about both model and serial #s. I've not had any luck finding numbers on the frame, don't have original motor, and doesn't have the interior at all. It was pretty stripped when I got it.
