Hi I was curious if anyone knows what is the earliest that the club started to keep track of the vin by member...i am looking for the cars that my dad owned at one time. He had that know of 1953 Hudson Hornet 1953 Hudson Wasp 1953 Hudson Jet and the 1927 Essex (which I have)...I am pretty sure the Jet went to the scrap yard back in the late 80's. The black Wasp sold on eBay in Springfield Ohio early 2000's... the Hornet was sold shortly after my dad's passing to a guy in New York...it was a blue 4 door. I remember it getting damaged moving it from Florida to Ohio a crease across the hood. I also remember the guy who bought it sent my mom a picture of it after he restored it...it was painted to a two-tone paint. Any help would be appreciated
Thanks Jason Mccleary

As far as I know the HET Club has always requested VIN numbers when you join or renew your membership. It's just that a lot of members did not want to list their VIN for some reason. If the membership did not cooperate, there's a chance that you may never be able to locate information on the cars you remember your Father having

I understand that the current owners vin numbers are in the current roster. What I want is the vin numbers my father owned back in the 60s and 70s. He passed in 82...so I was just hoping there was record of it somewhere .

I don't think anyone is keeping track of particular vehicles by VIN number. About the only way you might be able to trace would be if you know the VINs of the cars your Father had.

If you don't know the serial #s of your fathers cars, try looking in an old roster under his name and get the numbers. Then do a search as Ken suggests.

Jason - I have looked thru my old copies of the HET Rosters, back into the late 60's, 70's & 80's and have not found any VIN number listings until about the late 90's, so apparently the HET Club was not all that concerned with such info at that time. So, my guess is that unless you have the VIN numbers of your Father's Hudson products, it is not going to be possible to trace their whereabouts at this time.

Jason, as you may know there is a registry database here at the HET website. It's under "Member" and in the left column are the categories of cars.

The other method is to click on the upper of the two left-hand lists, and select "FIND A CLUB VEHICLE". Then input year, make and model and you'll see a listing of matching cars.

Unfortunately, the only way you could positively identify your father's car, was by the serial number included in each car listing. And if he didn't supply it to the Club (or the Club never asked for it at the time) you're out of luck.

One other thought is to contact the individual who maintains the particular registry that fits your father's car, and ask him / her if -- somehow -- your father's name appears at the former owner of any of the cars in that category. The names of the registry keepers are under CLUB / INFO/ VEHICLE REGISTRIES. So for example, the person keeping the 1953 registry may have the names of former owners attached to the particular listing of the Hornet that your dad once owned. If the car had been registered to your dad and then the new owner bothered to re-register it under the new owner's name, possibly the listing would contain both your dad, plus the succeeding owners' names. Some registry keepers like to keep that chain of owners in their listing, because it helps people like yourself to find a particular car.
