My 50 Commodore from a stop seems to be slow. It's like it can't get out of it's way fast enough. Is this normal? It's only been on the road for a week. Still working out the bugs. Thank for your feedback. Don Reimers
Don, this is not "normal" Tell us about your Hudson and what has been done already. We can go from there.
Things like plugs, points condenser. Plug wires? Timing checked? Good carb, fuel lines and gas tank? Valve adjustment? Checked compression on each cylinder? Exhaust flapper valve free?
Its a 50 so should be standard shift. Clutch slipping? Brake shoes free and not binding?
So what has been done to the engine is complete tune-up, carb rebuilt ,new coil, voltage regulator, clutch fluid change, oil change. Brakes new all around, drums turned, new wheel and master cyls. Adjusted to slight drag. Road test and rechecked. Going to shop next week to have diagnostics check with the shop that rebuilt the carb. I may have jumped the gun with my concerns. Engine runs and sounds fine, no miss at all. Hand under tailpipe while running smooth even at higher RPM's.
Have you had it up to highway speeds ? Reason I ask is you don't mention it having overdrive an some people put higher ratio rear end gears in to get up to modern speeds . So if its really wound up at say 65 you have the standard rear end gearing. if it just scoots along like a leisurely Sunday drive there is a faster rear gear set in there and that will show weak power getting going from a stop.
