Trying to identify what the little push button switch is under the dash to the right of the steering wheel. Could not find it listed in the '47 owner's manual.

From your description probably the windshield washer button Likely chrome plated, If its a twist switch, maybe instrument panel dimmer.(rheostat).

Thanks. Must be the windshield washer button, it is chrome plated.

If the car has overdrive, it may be a kickdown switch. Sometimes people mount them on the dash.
Or an alternate starter button, if the real button failed.
