I was surprised to finally find it. You hear about it every now and then but there is actually one for sale. Usually we just assume that someone is just using the name to tie it to the Cars Movie but now, finally here it is...the 1949 Hudson Hornet.

Ha. Still, if the word "Hornet" gets extra clicks for the ad and helps in saving it from the crusher, then that is a good thing:) Same with the squiliion Driving Miss daisy cars advertised.

Well, read Jack Kerooac On The Road. Neal Cassidy supposedly drove the living daylights out of 1949 Hornet. He abandoned it somewhere in San Francisco and it's disposition is unknown. Maybe this is it. That said, however, research has surmised that the car was probably a 1949 Commodore Custom 8. But who knows what lurks in the nether world

This leads me to believe that one of those 1953 Model 8C eights that I've been looking for for 40 years does actually exist - somewhere.

Alex,
I read "On The Road" as well and don't recall that it was ever referred to as a Hornet. I'd have noticed that error immediately. Geez, I hope I'm not wrong.
A disappointing read, I might add. At least, nothing like I expected.

Frank, I think that in order to understand Kerouac and "On The Road" you had to have grown up in the 1950's era. It's sort of like watching a couple of episodes of Laugh In on YouiTube with my, then 14 - she was born in 1971 - year old daughter. She couldn't understand the humor of it all. Today's kids probably wouldn't understand some of the comedy, for example, TV of the 70's and 80's.

The seller actually has it right at one point, saying it's a '49 Commodore. It may have been Hornet powered at one time judging by the Twin oil-bath air cleaners inside......I'll take those!

Alex, I had an old timer tell me of a couple of 53 commodore 8's sold through his dealership. They were modified to acomodate the customer but he got a 53 Commodore 8! Not quite factory but it worked for the customer. Hey they did whatever it took to make a sale.
