My 55 Hudson Rambler has the auto trans where you need to lift the shift lever to start the car. Key is on lift lever nothing. When I jump the solenoid it fires right up. The soleniod has been rplaced. Anyone have an idea on how to trouble shoot this. Thanks

Was the ignition replaced with a a more modern type to bypass the shift lever start? Sorry, you probably already tried that obvious approach, but wanted to be sure. I am interested in this as I need to make sure my 56 Super Wasp will start properly and I haven't looked at the linkage yet for that. It is the typical Nash type starter system.

No, I had this problem late last year a few times and was able to get it home. Now have tried about 20 times over the last few days, and no start. There is a switch of some sort along side the shifting linkage. Not sure how to test it, or if there is an adjustment. Tomorrow may have some time to dig into it.

I'm going to go look at that on my Super Wasp. Do you suppose you have some corroded contacts there?
