I've been trouble-shooting my '54 Jetliner's Dual range Hydramatic, and I came upon this manual, much more practical and informative than the Hydramatic Manual (with the red cover) which is more common. http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/trans/4655hmt/
This includes many on-the-car adjustments. A good read if you own a GM Hydramatic in your Hudson !

I posted my transmission struggles on another thread, but today I lengthened the TV rod (rod from accelerator linkage
plate to transmission pawl arm) about 1/2 ", and all my Trans troubles went away. Shifts smoother, and at the right times, and now my passing gear (kickdown) works too. Just got back from a lazy cruise !
