How do you install the fuel pump on a 37 hudson. No matter what I do I can't get it to pump fuel. Is there some trick to getting the pump are aligned with the cam? Never had this problem before with other cars.

Was this pump recently rebuilt? If so, maybe the valves are in backwards, a very common error. Even supposedly professional rebuilders do it sometimes. I had to take several "rebuilt" pumps apart to either flip the valves, or turn the bottom plate around 180 degrees.

Gordon, what pump are you using?. how are you mounting the pump?. With 1 gasket, 2 gaskets and a plate?. The manual shows several different ways , for a couple of different pumps.
A side note, before you remove it again, just remove the lines for the in and out, take your remote starter button and crank the engine over while putting your finger over the ports, does anything happen?. Does fuel pull into the sight glass?. Are you sure you are picking up fuel from the tank?.

no output while on car. Can get output when out and pushing lever. Beginning to think the arm or internal cam is worn.

When installing the pump you must insert the lever up against the outside of the eccentric on the cam. Angle the pump outwards at the top to do this and insert lever through the top of the hole until you feel it contact the cam, and lower the pump into position.

When bolting the pump onto the side of the block, do you encounter resistance as the pump's arm pushes against the cam? If not, then maybe the arm is either not at the right angle, or you are using too thick a spacer.
