Electrical problem; brake lights one side only

I'm having a hard time debugging this problem, and oddly my Hudson Wiring Diagram does not include the turn signal circuit, which operate in conjunction with the Stop/Tail light system. As it stands, my tail lights and turn signals operate ok. The turn signals use the stop light filaments, so the tail lights can be on at the same time the turn signal is on. But when I press the brake and energize the stop-light filament, only the left comes on. I can't run a jumper wire to the right, because then whem I use the turn signals (L or R), BOTH lights flash (like hazard lights). Thinking back, I had this same problem with my '67 Dodge Van, and '62 Chevy Corvair, and couldn't figure it then either. Any help is appreciated ! Thank you.

Andrew, remember, you have to have 2 power wires. One comes from the ignition switch, that when it is turned out, makes the system hot, and the other comes from the stop light switch, which is powered all the time. NOTE, if the key is NOT on, and you select either side of the turn signal, and step on the brakes, the side you have selected for turn, WILL NOT LUMINATE. It needs to have power coming from the switch to make the turn flasher, flash. I hope this helps.

Hello Doug and thanks for your help !
I think I am ok with the dual power input. The key ignition does have to be in the AUX or ON position for the turn indicators to work, and the hot wire to the brake switch is always hot ( always to BAT, and fused of course).
I found a wiring diagram in an old thread, (attached). Note the circuit for the license plate illumination. It seems to go from the license plate bulb straight to the RH tail light bulb filament. It seems to be isolated, ground-to ground ! I guess I will try the configuration and see what happens !
