Has anyone upgraded to an electric fuel pump on the 37 hudson terraplane six?
I have already upgraded to 12 volts. If so how did that work out and what pump did you use or recommend?

You have to get a rotary pump. Airtex makes them, and other companies. They look like an inline gas filter, small round.
If you get a pulse pump the new gas with the ethanol will eat the neoprene valves and diagrams in the pump. I've had to replace two new pulse type pumps and a fuel pressure regulator because of this on pumps a year old . The new rotary pumps work fine and can be found on ebay or at most any parts store. Gordon, since you are already 12V, we use the Mr. Gasket, 12S electric pump. We have had real good luck with them. The round style Airtex pump seems to have troubles after 6 months, so we stopped using them. Also, we rebuild lots of carbs. We use the Daytona Parts Co. kits, which are equipped with the Daytona Parts float valve. We have had absolutely NO trouble with their style valve holding fuel pressures of more than 5 LBS. , no regulator required. There are so many things that are contributing problems when it comes to fuel concerns. Sometimes it appears to be the carb. but really it is something completely different. Modern fuel wants to boil before it ever gets to the carb., so keeping the fuel as cool as you can get it really helps. Factors causing fuel related concerns, such as the heat riser is in the closed position, and/or stuck in the closed position. A restricted exhaust, tight valve lash, slow ignition timing, weak fuel pressure, primary and secondary ignition problems, such as a worn out distributor, or having the counter weights inside the dist., stuck or sticking and not letting the engine advance, or it is stuck in the advance position, causing a hard start,... These are all things we deal with daily, so don't discount any of them. It just seems most decide the carb is the only issue, when it really is a combination of many! We have found the 30's, 6 cyl.distributors, counter weighs stuck or just worn out has caused many running issues, so mark sure to check those.

Jon, the airtex rotary pumps are available for different pressure, no regulator needed, I have a low pressure I think 2-4lbs. on my 29 because of the updraft carb. And a I think a 3-5lbs on my 40 Hupp running a Mercury flathead with dual carbs. I had a Mr. Gasket
adjustable pressure regulator on it but the gas turned the diaghram to a black goo. And also ate the inside of the neoprene fuel hose. Now you have to use a alcohol resistant fuel hose. I had a new AC pulse type pump on my 29 and the gas turned the neoprene valves inside to black goo.
