For '42 to '47 Hudson, is the radiator the same for the 8 cylinder and the 6 cylinder ?

No. The 8 Cylinder is deeper but otherwise the dame dimensions and inlet/outlet positions.

I believe that the cores are the same, but the mounting straps are different. One has mounting bolts under the core, and the other one has mounts outside lower corners. Ed

Core for the 8 is much thicker with a larger capacity top tank. Correct about mounting differences.

As Ed and Ric have pointed out. The 8 cyl. rad. is different, they both have the same in and out locations, BUT they are different in size, capacity and mounting. The 6 cyl. radiator mounts were the 8 cyl. engine mounts are located. The 8 cyl. rad. has mounts that bolt down on either side with 2 bolts. The holes for the 8 cyl. mounting are there on all chassis, just not used if equipped with the 6 cyl.

Thanks for the added info Doug. I checked on the frame and think I see where they bolt in. I need to talk to you concerning this and a few other questions, and order some parts.
Thanks
Cal

Cal, do you have any of these brackets?. I might have some extra's. We use a custom aluminum radiator we have made for these cars. Our radiator is a large core type, looks about the same, but set up for use with the Big 6 engine. the Big 6 has a different location on the top neck and is pressurized. The front splash apron has to be modified to use them, or have the correct 8 cyl.splash apron. We have found those hard to come by, but the 6 cyl.is easily modified.
Something that is substantially different on the '41-'47 cars. VS. the Step-down cars, is the location of the water pump and fan. The earlier engine has an adapter that sits the water pump and fan higher, more in the center of the radiator. Depending on what climate and options on your application, it is recommended to install an electric cooling fan, and turn it on if needed. The built in shroud is also very important to replace. We use a stiff, thin rubber material, around the radiator. This doesn't rattle, and also conforms to the hood when closed. This really helps the air to go thru the rad. instead of around the radiator. It is also very important to use the splash apron, again, it helps direct the air thru the radiator and not go around. Give us a call, thanks doug
