Can anyone advise on the best method for disassembling a door handle from a 46-7 Super? I need to swap out the base casting with an unbroken (so far...) replacement, but am unsure how to remove the crimped steel 'cup' that is on the handle shaft.

Phil, I also need to replace the base casting on a 46 pickup drivers door . Are the base castings available? Ed Moore

Ed, Lew Bird has no more of them, and all I could get from Doug Wildrick is one with pitted chrome and a broken tab on the front that prevents the handle from over-rotating (I guess I'll drill and tap that spot ant install a threaded stud).

My brother Park had suggested to me that I check with Stu Coleman, in Montana. You might ask him. Let me know if he has an extra complete handle unit, or a better base casting.

I am thinking about asking my contacts in the Manufacturing Engineering labs at Georgia Southern University if they would be willing to 3D scan my old base casting (which I could superglue together) and 3D print a wax model that a foundry could use to make a new casting. I'd just have to find out about costs and whether they could do it in brass rather than pot metal. Then it is a matter of adjusting the 3D file for shrinkage factor, and then chrome plating....

I'd check with Al Saffrahn too. Contact info on the WTN's list of service providers, Jul-Aug.
