As finding good reusable used sockets are nearly impossible to find I gave up and found a replacement. YNZ sells a replacement socket. You need to get the one for a 1-1/16" opening. Due to the design it does need a ground wire to function. I ave attached pics for how I did mine. Others may have approached this differently and I would be glad to see other options. Pics of the process were attached.
I used a 7mm distributor wire rubber cap. Added the Hudson style male/female bullet connectors (also from YNZ. This lets you swap wires in case you get the on backwards. Used the rubber sleeves over the bullet connectors so they do not ground out to each other. Then I put a 1/2" piece of heat shrink to bridge over the rubber boot and the rubber hose cover over the wiring. Lastly I found some large 1-1/16" o rings to seal the socket to the housing. Makes a great water tight seal. Attach your ground wire and you are done. Have to give credit to Ken Ufheil for the idea. It works great.
Gary, this looks good. Did you solder the ground post on the socket?
The socket from YNZ has a ground post integral to the socket. No soldering needed. The ground post is a spade connector.
Oreillys sell a similar bulb housing. Will need to bend tabs slightly in to fit snug like OJ's glove. Push wires thru and soder the copper "buttons" on
I tried buying a couple from Oreillys but they needed a larger hole. They seemed to be for the 1-1/4" opening.
