I'm going to remove the driveshaft on my 53 Hornet so I can replace the U-joints. I have the manual but the instructions are confusing. It talks about the center bearing support to frame cross member bolt, the brake cable guard cross member to center bearing support bolt and the 2 bolts for the brake cable guard cross member to frame. However, I'm not sure which parts they are talking about.
Does anyone have a picture that identifies these items? What is the center bearing support and where does it attach to the frame cross member? What is the brake cable guard cross member and where does it attach to the center bearing support? Where does the brake cable guard cross member bolt to the frame?
Finally after all these things have been unbolted does the front shaft come out to the side or does it move to the rear to come out?
I will appreciate any help you can offer.

There is a very good picture on the lube chart in your owner manual. Should be able to figure out what needs to be removed.
Another source is the 48-49 shop manual, Section 12. Has drawing which identifies these parts. I'm not sure if this info. was
repeated in subsequent issues of the shop manual.
As I remember the whole assembly can be removed from the rear.
Moved to "Hudson" forum category.
Fred,
Thanks for your response. The 48-49 center bearing support is configured somewhat differently from the 53. Also, they seem to have moved most of the description for removing the driveshaft from the 48-49 manual to the 53 manual, with minor changes due to the new configuration. The two discussions get kind of mixed up but I can sort it out now that I can look at both. Again, thanks for steering me to the 48-49 manual.

Just a note to be sure you mark the orientation of the shafts on the splines/yokes before you remove them. You'll want to make sure you put them back together in the same orientation so they don't become out-of-phase and cause vibration. I think that's covered in the book but worth another mention.
I couldn't find the '53 shop manual in the library. Is it in there?

No complete manuals after 1951, just supplement covering mechanical changes 52-54.
