I am in dire need of a fuel float gauge for my 51 Hudson Hornet .
Any help would be appreciated- or has someone found a Universal one for this application?

Do you need the sending unit or the actual gauge for the instrument cluster? If you need the sending unit, forum member Paul Schuster supplies them.

The float assembly-
I was given Paul's name and sent him email on Sept 21 and had no reply so far.

I've found that it's best to contact most folks via phone but unfortunately I can't seem to locate Paul's number. I purchased a sending unit from Paul and, as it turns out, I only needed the float and the gasket. If you're in dire need of a unit I'd sell the one that I have but you'd need a float and a new gasket. I can include the original brass float that I had to replace but it would need to be resoldered.

Got a hold of Paul. Found his home email address in the WTN magazine.
Thanks for your assistance.

Ok, great. As a note, the new sender is configured differently from the OEM unit. I was testing my replacement to confirm which position was Full and Empty and noticed that, according to my readings, I'd have to read my dash gauge backwards. Using the new sending unit, the low position (as it's mounted in the tank) will read full while the high position will read empty.....at least that's what I figured it would do. Others may be able to confirm or perhaps offer ways to reverse it. Either way, you'll at least know how much gas you've got which is better than guessing!

Side note: I have yet to take my seat out and flip gages & whatever. But use a digital VOM {laying on the hump car-carry} set at ohms to read tank level. OEM is high for empty and low for full--no problem; use your own full and empty numbers; works just like a correct gage.
Oh, the digital VOM is FREE with any purchase at Harbor Ft. A good 'fix' for a procrastinator--ha~~(until a 2nd winter)
