Hello. I am a new member from Tryon, N.C. My Vin is 49218113. Is there a source to determine what the car left the factory with and or owner history? Thanks in advance

The first 3 digits 492 identify it as a 1949 Commodore 6. No information is available to determine what body style it was by the Vin # or original buyer. Unless you can find it listed in the club roster, that is about the only way to find out any history on the car.

Thank you very much. It will arrive from St. Louis in a week. The title says it only has a little over 31 thousand miles on it. I'm trying to decide whether to paint it or leave it with the "patina". It is still listed on Hemmings. It is the two tone green one. If you have time check out the pics and let me know your thoughts. I had it inspected and will take care of the little stuff. There really isn't any big mechanical things to fix-all cosmetic. Anyway, thank you for your help. Jim Baker. Cell 828 817-2017; officice: 828 859-5055.

Hi Lance, Jim Baker here. Do you have a tailpipe for my 49 commodore? Also, the fuel gauge does'nt work. Where do I start with that? The clock runs but is slow. WD40? Thanks Jim

Hi James,

For the fuel gauge, try attaching a wire from the terminal on the tank to ground. This terminal is on the upper front side of the tank on the driver's side. If this makes the gauge move, the problem is with the sender in the tank.

There is an adjustment for the speed of the clock. On the back of the clock is a crescent shaped slot. Most likely you need to take the clock out in order to see it.

Car was built sometime in Nov. 1949 (serial no's 2177 to 20603.) Sometime near the end of Nov., I'd say off hand. No other info is available at this time, tho we keep looking.

Hudsonly,

James, did you purchase the car from Robert Prather? He is listed as the last owner.

No, I bought it from MotoExotic out of St. Louis. A man by the name of Jimmy Norman owned it 2 owners ago. I called him and he said he was the second owner. I was bought new in Kentucky. He said he sold it to a friend of his and it sounds like he sold it to or consigned it to Moto. Other names on the old title are: Smith's Classic Cars; Regina Jolly(she was an actual owner) I don't have the car inposession yet, it is transit from St. Louis to Tryon, N.C. It only has 31,000 documented miles. I will decide whether to leave it alone or restore the paint and chrome. I want the car to be at it's most valuable in 2-4 years. Your opinion?
