I need some help identifying my 1935 Hudson . I think it is a 8 , what is the difference between a 8 and a Terraplane?
It is a straight 8 engine and the rear of the car is flat from the rear windows down . It doesn't have the trunk protruding like some do . I also think it has a longer wheel base. Thanks for any help .
Rich .
What's the serial number?
No long wheel base Terraplane ?. the hood is one of the most distinctive differences.
1935 Terraplanes only had 6-cylinder engines. Unless a past owner wedged an eight into it, it's a Hudson.
To verify it's an eight, count the spark plugs.
The serial number will nail it, though.
Thanks for the reply . I did some more digging and I think I have a Hudson Custom . It is a 124 inch wheel base and has wood artillery wheels . I think that only gives me one option . Thanks
Rich
Richard,
I also have a 1935 Hudson 8 Custom with a 124 inch wheelbase and wood artillery wheels. It has a spare tire in each fender, with a two piece metal cover. My car like yours does not have a bulging trunk. It has two rear windows, which is different from the very similar 1934 Hudson, which has one rear window. The tail lights are mounted on the fenders, with the driver's side having the license plate bracket and clear glass to allow light to reach the license plate. The wing windows are crank operated. Turning the crank one direction opens the wing window. Turning the crank the other direction lowers the wing window into the door. The windshield opens. The windshield's control allows it to be opened various amounts. At the center of the dashboard is a round radio dial. The front bumper has a bracket standing up at the middle, which is to support the hand crank, which is in two pieces. One part of the hand crank also serves as a lug wrench.
What condition is your car in?

Per,
My Hudson is a rust free never crashed repaint about 10 years ago that never got put back together . They broke the trans input shaft housing putting the trans in and then just pushed it inta a barn in Pittsburg PA. I knew the family that had it . It only has 8300 miles on it and all the major parts are original. It is missing some small parts . I've had it about 5 years now and am going to put it back together this winter . I am tired of people wanting it for a street rod . My car is just like yours minus the fender spare tires . Was a little confused on what I had , never saw one just like mine . Car has always been garaged so the dash , guages , and steering wheel are in like new condition . Thanks for the reply.
Rich
Kudos for keeping it stock. The street rodders can go find a Ford.....they're everywhere.

Rich,
Have you gotten what you need for the transmission? Carl Weber, who has a '35 Hudson, knows a lot about these cars, and has many parts.
I have had my car for many years, and have driven it about 40,000 miles. It is fun to drive. You are fortunate to have a car in such good condition!

Jon, 1934 was a Hudson 8 only year; 1935 had both Hudson sixes and eights.

Any photos to share, by chance?
Ok my Hudson is a Hudson custom 8 confirmed by serial number . Thanks for all the great info . I will get some pictures in the next few weeks the car is at my PA farm I'm going to brink it back to VA to start working on it this fall / winter will get pics then . Are there any Hudson venders at the Hershey show ?
Rich
Definitely! They are in the Red Field, out between the old stadium and HersheyPark Drive, in row RNE.
Also, the Hudson club has a trailer there, a place where you can top & relax, "network" with fellow Hudson owners, leave messages on the bulletin board, have a cup of coffee and a donut, and temporarily "park" heavy objects you've been lugging around the flea market. We can even sign you up for the Club if you're not yet a member! The space number is RNE 24-25.
The Club also has a few other activities going on in the area, mostly at Carlisle (west of Hershey) where we have blocked off several rooms at a discount, have a Saturday night dinner for all Hudson enthusiasts (a few minutes away) and have a Sunday morning all-Hudson flea market.
