I have a split rim from a 28 Hudson. The rim does not want to stay clamped together. One end rises above the other almost 1/2". Is there a way to bend the rim so it will align properly? Could it be heated and bent? Another possible fix would be to use a bottle jack as a ram to spread, (bend), the rim back where it belongs?
I'm sure this has been a problem for others like myself. Any fix it ideas would be appreciated.

Be careful! Those were called widow makers for a reason.
So what I do is cut to 4x4s to the shape of the rim (arcs) and put the bottle jack in the middle. I rotate the two arcs and then jack to make sure that it is spreading the rim to where I want it. Once you get the one side butting up against the other and it will stay, I try mounting the rim on the wheel. If you can get it mounted, then you can put some fastners on and then air up the tire. I always feel better inflating the tube on the wheel. I have also inflated the tire with the jack in the middle, but then I usually lay it on the ground. Good luck.

PM your email to me & I'll send you a pdf copy of the article I put with copies of Geoff Clark's DVD on changing tyres on split rims on late 20's Hudson & Essex. The article is about taking the tension out of the split rim.
Geoff has given the NZ HET Club the right to sell these DVD as a fund raiser. He originally made the DVD as a tech session for a USA National meet.
