I had been looking for someone to recast my 51 blue marble steering wheel and could only find the company in Australia. I did not want to try and deal with an international relationship. Everywhere I checked in the US indicated the could not do the blue marble. They could only do solid colors. Finally I found Bob Denault with D and D automotive that indicated he could do it. But he did not have a Hudson mold. Soooo, I bit the bullet and paid for making the mold.
As with most things Hudson, they did things differently, even how they mixed the color for the steering wheel. The black/ charcoal background for the blue would look great in samples but when injected the black would absorb the blue.
The first casting came out almost totally black. He had to go back and modify he mold to change how the resin is added and mixed. The second one came out great. I just received the second steering wheel back and it is really nice. Bob put a lot of extra effort into making sure that the end product was nice. We now have someone who can cast the Hudson marble color and he now has a mold for the Hudson - at least for the ones using the 51 hornet style wheel.
Seems everything Hudson takes a bit more effort!
Great to know Gary. FYI the guy in Australia wraps the wheel in a marble plastic material.
I was not aware of that. This makes me feel better for the effort? I did not want that type of restoration. Thanks.
Your efforts are definitely worth it. While you cant really tell by looking at the wrapping, you can feel it around the back plus if there is any detail in the wheel it can get buried under the wrapping.
Discussion moved to "Hudson" forum category.
Well, that's awesome. You ought to consider sending Sam Jackson an email so he can include in the WTN.
Never seen one on a '51, only the '52's.
It looks really nice!
Rob

The original color actually has a bit of green which was problematic to match. Hudson had their own way of doing it. I was happy with the color show in the pics as it is really close and my hornet is being done with blue paint and interior.
My 51 Commodore Hollywood has a blue marble wheel, and blue marble garnish molding. Ed
I had a blue marble steering wheel on a factory original 51 black hornet 4 door sedan...Took it off and put it on my 52 H conv...been told many time this was not 'correct' for 52...don't care cause it looks gorgeous.

MIKE! Been trying to get a hold of you off and on for some years now. Eventually got a new phone and lost your contact info. Can you give me a call or drop me a line when you get a chance?

Agree totally. Only one guy in the US can recast them and I paid for the mold so now other Hudsonites can have them cast!
