Hey all
My 51 had a pretty shady exhaust when I bought it. It has since fallen off the car and needs redoing. My Hornet has Twin H/Hydromatic and is totally stock under the hood. As much as headers would be desirable, this car needs a rebuild before getting anything fancy, so I am looking for recommendations for a muffler. I'll be keeping the single stock manifold for now, unless of course someone has a manifold splitter laying around.....
Muffler technology is not something I deal with often, maybe once every 10 years or less. Right now it sounds like a tractor. I'm looking for something more of an authoritative rumble. Anyone got a recommendation?

Paul Schuster has a splitter for sale . Ed
NAPA 18130 is a good replacement for the original. Similar length and position of in/out pipes.
If I could add to the question - what's a good replacement for the auxiliary muffler (the front one) on a 53 Hornet?
Thanks,
Ed
None. They're louder and more obnoxious that way. 😉
Thanks Russ. I'll relay that message to my wife and neighbors. However, in the interest of domestic tranquility, I'm still curious if there's something out there.

I wanted glass packs. My muffler guy didn't do it (still don't know why) and put on something like a Turbo Mufflers instead. Sounds like a Grandpa car. When I get around to doing it again, I still want something a little more obnoxious like glass packs.
Ryan and Russ, The glass pack sound is likely more period correct. They are priced right and fit in tight spaces. The draw back is the glass burns out after time and they become louder. I found a company that makes to order chambered mufflers in different lengths. This is the type of muffler that GM used on their factory HP cars back in the 60's like the z28 and side piped Corvettes. They are shaped like a glass pack with no glass to burn out but have dimples in the casing . Made of stainless steel so they will last a long time. They have a nice "don't mess with me " idle and when you bury the pedal they bark. I have dual 2 1/8 pipes and mufflers with long tube headers on my 54 Hornet. Just type in chambered mufflers on your search engine and you will find the company. You could use two of them in tandem if you want it the way the factory did it.
