Hi all - I replaced my valves and valve guides in 2014 and I've never checked the valve clearance since then. I have been able to find clearance specs in the 1951 shop manual (In: 0.008"; Ex 0.010"), but these are for a hot engine. Honestly, I'm not sure that I'm fast enough to get the engine hot and then work quickly enough to check/adjust all the valves before the engine cools down. So, does anyone know what would be the corresponding specs for a cold engine? When I did the valve work in 2014 someone told me to add 0.004" to each of the clearances to account for a cold engine. Is this correct? Thanks!!
Michael,
If I remember correctly, Walt recently recommended setting the valves cold on a Hornet at 14 intake, 17 exhaust. This is more than the original specifications, but allows for today's faster speeds and today's gas.
