My '37 Hudson 8 doesn't have a spare in the trunk, and I'd feel less nervous if I had one. I'm not able to see any mounting point, though I imagine the tire would have been attached to the panel separating the trunk from the back seat. Any guidance would be appreciated.
Thanks, Chris
You should have a shelf (possibly made of plywood) that takes up most of the trunk and sits maybe 8" above the metal floor of the trunk. The spare tire would have laid flat, under the shelf. There should be a heavy duty, Z-shaped loose metal bracket that grabs the end of the tire nearest the back, and is bolted to a threaded hole in the floor. The front and sides of the tire will be wedged up against the framing that holds up the shelf; the Z-bracket prevents the tire from sliding backwards.
Thanks Jon - that's how my '41 Olds is set up, but that one has a much deeper trunk. I guess the floor of the '37's trunk seems so shallow front to back that I didn't even consider a tire could lay flat. I'm happy to be wrong about that.
