need to replace wiper cable on my 52 Hudson how do you change It on the tower

If you want to relieve the tension in order to replace the cable and tower assembly, then go under the hood to the wiper tensioner. Get something thin like a finishing nail or an ice pick. Gently pull back on the wiper tensioner leaf spring and at the same time , move the cable wheel assembly toward the wiper motor. At this point drop the ice pick/nail into the aligned holes on the wheel assembly to the base plate hole. Now that tension has been relieved, remove the wiper ends at the wiper motor . If you desire to remove the wiper tower, proceed to go under the dash and remove 3/8" (?) nut from wiper tower clamp. loosen and pull wiper tower up and away from car. be careful about the rubber gasket and watch the orientation of the cables as they pass through the felt . Good luck.
how do I get the cable out of the tower
In order to do that you need to 1) punch the two tiny rives out that hold the retaining shield under the center cable wheel on the tower. 2) Punch out the axle on which the cable wheel rides. This can be accomplished by getting a long punch and proceeding to punch the axle out from the rear of the tower towards the front. Once it's out you now have the cable and wheel assembly by themselves.
