While disassembling my '51 Hornet for paint, I found a spring on each side of the inner fender- one was broken, one was not, laying between the fender and the cowl. I can see a notch on the rear of the cowl hood hinge but can not figure out where the other end of the spring attaches to. I looked at my '50 and there are no springs there either (unless they're laying in the same place as the '51). The '50 hood opens and closes smooth as silk...the '51 needs adjustment. Are these springs necessary and, if so, where is the other attachment point? Terry
Is your car a LWB ?. Yes, they're required. One end attaches to the cowl as you have found, and the other end attaches to the bottom of the hood hinge. When you open the hood, the springs assist it in operating. Do you have a parts book, if so, it shows them.
I finished removing the fenders today and seen the tab on the cowl for the spring(s). I'll have to remove the inner fender on the '50 to see if those springs are laying in that same area. Thanks, Doug. Terry
