I need to replace the wide white walls on my 51 Hornet. The only source seems to be Coker tires and they are considerably more expensive than any other comparable or better black wall. Are there any other sources for wide white wall tires that are more reasonably priced? My local tire shop quoted me for a set of Coopers with a 3/4 inch white wall with a better tire rating than any of the Cokers for less than one third the cost of Cokers. How dumb would the 3/4 inch whitewall look on the car?

Are you looking for original Bias ply or radials?

I don't think it would look dumb at all. I've seen one with the narrow whitewalls, looks good. I had a '46 Ford coupe with the narrow whites on it , I thought it looked good on that. Probably about a $400 difference, you can buy a lot of gas for that.

Sorry. I was looking for radials and the difference in cost between the Cooper's with a 3/4 inch white was and the Cokers is over $1,000.00.

Haven't checked difference in price lately, I would definately go with the Coopers. Look around for pics, sure you will find some with the narrow white walls , and see what they will look like.
Have a nice day.

Have you looked into Diamond Back? I don't know if they have radials in your size but you might want to check them out. I"ll bet they offer more than a 3/4" whitewall. https://www.dbtires.com/

Here are threef online discussions about Diamond Backs.

The Diamond Backs are much better tires, too. The downside is that the prices are usually same as Coker.

Walt here. I only use cooper tires and did a lot of cross country driving, coast to coast. 3/4 inch whites. I was burnt with cokers. Not good for high speed driving I was told. Cross country at 80 and better and over 500 miles a day. At 145,000 miles I just installed my 3rd set. Walt.
