Has anyone used Coker Tire 6.00R 16 tube type radials? I I have the bias ply tires on it now, I call them "show tires". I had some on a car previously and they were like skates in the rain, I am wondering if the radials are any better. Hopefully someone out there has tried them. Thank you in advance.
Going on a 1942 Super Six 2 door sedan.

I've had them on my '37 Terraplane since last spring.
I'm not sure how much I like them. They are certainly great when it comes to the "truckers ruts" on Interstates, and uneven pavement (and trolley tracks, if you have them in your town, LOL!). As for general driving...I dunno. My car has primitive suspension (solid front axle, leaf springs, etc.) and it may just be that older (non-IFS) cars are not improved that much by radials.
Although the steering on my car is tight, the tires seem sort of loosey-goosey, though I must admit that the frame is badly rusted (gonna get that fixed) and the entire car may be flexing.
For about 14 years I had the Goodyear All-weather diamond tread whitewalls (bias ply, of course), which look pretty neat. I bought one size larger than "original" (I got 650 x 16) and in my opinion they gave a better ride in terms of control, than the previous set of 600 x 16's had. So you might consider that option as well (I would assume they would fit the '42's).
The Cokers are not cheap! You might want to check out Diamondback's version of this size radial. I have heard good things about Diamondback. The problem was, they just kept delaying and delaying the introduction of the 600 x 16 radials, and finally I could wait no longer. I assume that they finally came out with them.
Get radials that replace 600x16 tires. Get a brand that is made by a big tire company. I use COOPER Radials on my Hudson and drive across the country in all weather. I said COOPER not COKER. Walt.
Thanks for the feedback. I had a '46 Ford coupe with the "show tires" on it, changed to 15 inch tubeless radials....night and day difference. I hate to go to 15 inch on the Hudson, so want to find out about these. I was looking at the Coker prices, they definatels are not cheap.
Where do you find the Coopers? I haven't been able to find any of this size except Coker or the other antique tire suppliers.
Thanks for the info.
I have used "Universal" brand bias ply on a couple of my cars. They hold up very well, and on my Super Jet they do not squirm in the truck tracks like the previous tires I had on it. Also put "Universal" 5.40 17 on my '33 Terraplane and the have held up very well.
I have the Coker 600-16 's on my '37Terraplane, I like them so far, driven just a couple of hundred miles and they look proper. It got rid of most but not all of the "bias ply shuffle".
