i have a 53 262 what year or years of twin h will fit, have heard that the 54 model requires some modification

308 twin H will bolt right on a 262. Many are running around today with that combination. Factory twin H for 262 is the same except for carb size and carb base size. Just re-jet the 308 carbs for the smaller CI 262.
thanks Kerry
im looking at a unit from a 54, its my understanding that all twin h units only used carter wg carburetors ? also what years are oil bath vs paper element
Twin H units all used WA 1 carbs from the factory or dealer as the case may be. Oil bath air cleaner units were available for all years the oil wetted units were available. Drawback to oil bath cleaners is that they make it difficult to service and access some parts of the engine any tranny without removal.
And you got to know that with the oil bath type you ARE going to sneeze when removing it and drop it on the engine getting oil all over everything. Been there, done that!!!

I've got a '51 262 and just went through sourcing a Twin H setup so here's what I discovered on my journey. The intakes for the 308 and 262 look pretty close to identical, even the casting numbers can be the same, however the carb bolt spacing is the easy tell-tale. The carb bolts on the 262 intakes are 2.75" from center to center and the 308 uses a 3" spacing. The Carter WA 990s carbs are used on the 262 manifold and they have the smaller venturi and base to match the smaller opening in the manifold. The 262 intake can be hard to find but i chose to go that route rather than fiddle with jetting, metering rods and other settings that are needed to make the 308 intake work.
