I have pasted this into a new thread for visibility, hope that will be OK.

Today I have successfully removed the engine, all went well, thank you for all the advice. The transmission and the torus assembly are currently left in place in the car. I have obtained a new pump seal.

Having read the shop manual (downloaded from the club site – thank you), it seems that removal of the torus sections and the torus cover involves removing the 1 7/16 nut, tab washer and then a snap ring. Once I have removed the torus cover, I assume the pump seal will be visible and can be pulled out and a new one carefully tapped back into place. Is this correct? Am I correct in assuming that the pump seal, seats onto the torus cover?
Is there anything to watch out for on removing or refitting the torus and torus cover ?
The shop manual mentions aligning the splines of the torus cover with the splines of the front drive gear. Is there anything special to watch out for here, will the torus only fit in one position due to one double width spline for example ?
Finally, is it OK to use automotive RTV silicon sealant on the torus to flywheel gasket or is something else recommended?

Thank you again for any advice.
Best regards, Brian.

Just to add a further question, the tab washer under the 1 7/16 nut seems to be in poor shape, are these tab washers readily available (i.e. common with another vehicle) and does anyone know a source of a new tab washer ?
Thank you,
Regards,
Brian.
