Hudson 1951 Rear End Spacer?

Here I am yet again 🙂

Is there a spacer between the pinion oil seal and the pinion bearing?

This is either a back plate off a rawhide seal older than the hills or a spacer. I cleaned it up significantly. Don't want to get it all together and find out it should have been in.

Thanks

Oh YES, you put that back in! It is the pinion bearing shim that maintains the correct pre-load on the pinion bearing.

My experience is that bearing shims go between opposite-facing tapered roller bearings to adjust pre-load and are smaller OD than that. That looks like an oil slinger to me.

Oh...I should have mentioned that if it's the slinger, it goes between the companion flange and the outer bearing.....just behind the seal.
