The guy who is rebuilding my engine is having a hard time finding the clips/ retainers that slide inside the block with the lifters. I have no Idea what he is talking about. Any help would be appreciated, He needs three says they are about the size of a half dollar and have a slit in them. Even a link to a engine diagram for the 212 would be helpful.

Sounds like the valve spring seats, although these do not have a slot in them, just a hole

Something here doesn't make much sense...........the part that rides on the cam is the lifter ("cam follower"). Somehow I thought your engine was complete when you started the project. ?? If so, the lifters should be there.
If you need replacements, Dale Cooper has reproduction units for a reasonable price. They replace HMC p/n 166233. Otherwise you will have to search for NOS or re-faceable used lifters (not very many shops know how to deal with the arc-faced Hudson units). If you need to go that route, be advised (as your rebuilder will tell you) you must have the cam reground as well or it will quickly eat itself up.
You and your rebuilder really need to get a Manual that covers that engine.

I agree with you, But my engine is quite a distance from me. I got my pistons and rings from Dale and have told the rebuilder to call him about the lifters as I dont know what he is talking about. The guy came with good recomendations so I'll have to trust him to do what is right. Any idea when I can get an hudson 212 engine manual?
Thanks for the input

I don't know that there is a manual specifically for the 212 engine but a Mechanical Procedure Manual that covers your car will have all of the specs and info you/he would need. Of course, they always leave something out, but it's a good start. The Club Store should be a good source or you might check Alex Burr's online library, too.
I should add that 21st Century Hudson also has the lifters, but they are not yet on their web site.

Good luck,
F

Downloaded the Mechanical Procedure manual. Thanks>
The engine diagram seems to show something below the lifter. The engine guy says the piece is round with a sllot in it for the cam. He has had the cam reground already. The guys is an old time individual and has no idea how to nor desire to learn how to use email or send a picture. Once again thanks for your time and guidance as I sure need it.

I think he is talking about the lifter guide that sets in the block with the lifter in the middle. All 212 and 254's are the same from 1934 to 8's of 1952. Walt.

I have heaps of these if you can't find any there. Postage from N.Z would be around $25, and I'll donate the guides.

If I may butt in, I could certainly spare three used guides as well unless you prefer Geoff's offer. My price is the same but I'm about a million miles closer. Is NZ on this Planet?
Your call......

I'm slower....
I can send them out tomorrow. Shoot me a PM with address, etc. I could send them directly to him if you so desire. That would save some time/effort. All I need for the guides is a kiss from your sister, but I'll let you know what the shipping is when I know.
To confirm, that's three (3) 212 tappet (lifter) guides? Does he have the guide clamps? Be certain that he knows the critical nature of getting those guides in perfect alignment. It's important. (your book covers that).
