In my 51 manual, the first page of the cutch section shows a photo of a typical clutch pedal with a rubber pad and a tapered coil spring to cushion the pedal from hitting the floor. My 48 Super Six, only has a thin rubber washer. There are no stepdowns within about 500 miles of me, so I have none to look at. I have a new set of the correct rubber pads from Doug Wildrick but can anyone tell me if my 48 should also have the springs as shown in the manual? Should the brake pedal be the same? .
Thanks for the advice!
Mike Patterson
My '37 has the same setup and I have the Wildrick pads on mine. The spring is very similar to the ones you find behind the window cranks / interior door handles, when you remove your door panel: tapered, with a small-diameter side and and large-diameter side. If you can lay your hands on such springs, check the large diameter portion; it should fit within the indentation on the rubber pad.
Mike, give us a call back, we have some more of these. Thanks Doug
Thanks Jon,
Sometimes they use an older photo in a newer manual as a typical view. I know the door handle springs you are talking about. I don't have any around, unless I steal them from another one of my fine automobiles! I'll keep looking for something suitable.
Mike
Thanks Doug, I'll give you a call on Monday.
