A few years ago I was rebuilding an old flathead Ford on a woodie. I made the mistake of asking what oil to put in the engine on a Ford forum--and the fight was on! Everybody had an opinion and kinda like the Republican debates-- the other guy was either stupid, misinformed or a liar! I was sorry I asked.
Anyway I figure this bunch is waaaay easier to deal with, so I ask the question here without worry. What modern day lubricant are you guys using in your trannie (manual w/od) and the rear axle? I would assume they are all better than the old original stuff, but don't want to do anything that would cause harm.
Thanks, Keith
Walt here. I use Castrol gear oil 80-140 in all cars I work on and in my car when I changed the rear from 3:08 to 2:73 ratio I used 80-140 and the rear now has 100,000 miles. Best to use this also in steering boxes. Walt the Hudson man.
Great! I love it. Nice and simple and good for all three. And if it's good enough for you, Walt, it's good enough for me. Thank you, K
