Hello,
I am in the process of replacing the wiring in my 1948 Super 6. Can anyone tell me how the wires to the generator would have been routed originally? Would the wires have been routed alongside the engine, or would the wires have been routed down the fender, next to with the wires to the headlamps etc.

Many thanks for your help.
Brian.

Wires are routed on the left inner fender panel along with the voltage regular, then to the generator. Walt.

Brian, as you may be aware, there are several companies making wiring harnesses for Hudsons. Sometimes the harnesses are specific to a particular portion of the car (so you don't have to buy the entire harness for the whole car). Possibly you already know this.

If doing the job yourself, be aware that you can still purchase the old fashioned black fabric wire "loom" in different diameters, into which you can insert your wiring. Thus, long stretches where several wires travel together, can be housed in this felxible conduit, as opposed to using plastic wire tires, black electrical tape, or other means of binding the wires together. Besides being useful, it also has a "period" look (unlike some of the modern plastic flexible conduits that you buy at the auto parts store)..

And, as you also may know, one can now purchase modern plastic covered wire that is covered with the old style cloth covering. Old-fashioned "look" but no danger of shorting out, if and when the cloth disintegrates.

Something like this.

OK, I stand corrected (see below). I thought that since it was a stepdown that it would be similar to a 54.

Brian, the wires on a '48 are on your model go down the block.. The location of the voltage regulator is what makes this different.

If your car has automatic clutch or drive master, is when wires go by the head and generator wires on left front inner panel. Walt.
