Working on 1941 short stroker: existing cam gear and crank pinion, neither marked 20 degrees so assume pre-'40 parts. Question- washer/ spacer removed from front of cam gear upon disassembly, but on reassembly seems to be interference fit. Tried three-hole spacer on rear of cam gear, proper rear clearance to block but not exact alignment w/crank pinion. 95% maybe. Previous tech did '46 & later bevel screws on front engine mounting plate but did not scoop out plate for post-war gear. Very curious. Any thoughts??? O'Halloran

John, the thicker gears go back to the late thirties, so the post-war gears shouldn't require anything to be done to a '41.
I don't understand the question with interference?. Is the front support plate drilled and counter sunk as necessary?. Is there a new cam thrust washer behind the cam?. Is the intereference in the timing cover or gear to gear mesh?. If you had the front support plate off, did you install a new gasket, and if so, was it thick enough or too thick?. All these questions matter.
