Anyone have info on a modern 12v starter for a 51 308 with hydro
thanks
I used a Ford V-8 high torque starter. Took a lot of machining and had to make a mounting plate to bolt to the bell housing. Also had to use a Dodge starter drive instead of the Ford drive. Took me 3 months machining and had to use a bare hornet block with the crank in it, rear motor plate and flywheel. It will not work on standard trans. My machine shop has closed, owner died. Walt.
Got any other good news, Walt? 😉

Dennis, you can get a local starter-generator shop to swap out the field coils in your starter with ones for 12v. Pretty simple process. Here's the list of field coils for the various Hudson starters. The reference numbers are "Ace" numbers, but your shop can cross-reference.
