The Hudson serial # is strictly a car ID number . Some show the model in the 1st two or three digits. No paint, interior or engine info is contained in this number. Check your Owner Manual for more details. If you don't have one I suggest you do some shopping.

Actually it depends on which year Hudson you are talking about. The stepdown (48-53) years had the year and model in the first 3 alpha numeric spaces. In 1954 there was a bit more info on the vin tag. Serial number model, paint and trim were now on this tag.

My best understanding means it's a model 5b which should be a 1952 Hudson Wasp.

Hope it helps.

5B is a 1952 Wasp - by the serial number, 150613, the car was built sometime in Feb. 1952 (one of 6,697 off the line).

Back to your question. The paint code on a stepdown is stamped on the passenger upper door hinge. Mine is RM ie Red Maroon

Cody, according to figures I have there were 17,792 Wasps built in the 1953 models. There is, so far, no breakdown between the 4C Wasp Deluxe and 5C Super Wasp.
There is a discrepency between production and shipping data. One source gives 17,792 Wasps produced, but another source I have to hand gives 66,143 produced. Shipments are given as 78,183 units. This may be due to the method of determining what goes where. For example the descrepency could be caused by accounting methods, ie production was kept by calender year (Jan-Dec) while shipping was by model year (Nov 52-Aug. 53). Or the other way around.
In working with Hudson production and shippment figures sources can vary. And don't even go about serial numbers. LOL The starting numbers also can vary from source to source; for example a Hudson owners manual might start at -101 while another publication might start at 201 or some such. I been playing around with these numbers for 40 years now and still haven't found any sort of production numbers prior to 1946, just the so called shippment figures.
I do have monthly production figures for 1948 thru 1954, but not by model. For example, 1948, October 1947 101 thru 860, and so on. So with the serial number from your Wasp I can tell you the month it was built.

Hudsonly,
Alex B

Charlie, you have the only 1952 Wasp - the Wasp line didn't come in until 1953. According to a chart copied (stolen??) from Sarah Young's Hudson Jet site there were 590 Wasp Hollywoods in 1953. No breakdown between 4C and 5C.
With a serial number I can tell you when your car was produced.

Alex B

Alex, Check again. I think you will find Wasps introduced in 1952. My Uncle sold cars for Gil Schaefer Downtown Hudson in
Grand Rapids. I was impressed with the demo Wasp he brought to try and sell to my Dad.
