Has anyone out there installed or know of someone that has installed and after market AC system in a step down. I have a 53 Hornet that I re-powered with a 308 Chev V8 and I use as a driver but find that the driving in the summer isn't as comfortable as I would like it.

Where are you located William. That will help narrow the search area. If your in So. Calif. Ed Muller installs A/C in stepdowns. He is listed in the Club Roster.

I'm in western Montana. I'm not against traveling that far if the price was in my budget.
Thanks for responding.

William, I've got some pic's of the A/C I installed in my '51. Email me and we can see if they'll be a help. HETpwald@comporium.net. (remove the HET for actual address).

Park can certainly help you with this. There's a great write-up on AC installation in a Stepdown on Ken Cates' STepdown Restoration webpage here:

http://www.auldridge.org/doc/Cool Air for the Hornet.pdf

I've got two cars with AC (South Texas). One has a system nearly identical to Park's (my sedan) and the other is identical to the one in the write-up (convertible). Both have pros and cons. Feel free to email me for any extra info: HETrlchilton52@gmail.com (drop the HET).

I puy Vintage Air in my 53, did the job myself and it's been used for 144,345 miles and have never had any problems. Going to Oklahoma in 113 temp weather and the car stayed 60 degrees inside and the water temp never went over 180. I left my heater alone and just put in air only. Remember, you must run it every once in awhile to pretend hoses and seals from drying out. Walt.

can not have spaces in a URL; take them out and it will work just fine; yes, it is a pdf file.
