Is there a "key" to reading the code that is on the aluminum vin tag? Is the paint and trim options shown here?...k

If I remember correctly the model number and vin number are on the tag. Seems to me I recall that the paint code is stamped into the door frame above the vin tag, but I could be wrong about that. I don't believe there is any info on trim packages.

The paint code is stamped on the top passenger door hinge from late 30s on through 53. For 54, the paint code was one the vin tag as well, located on passgener side A pillar near door hinge. My experience is those tags are frequently worn or corroded and you can't easily see the code number. Have to get it via other detective means.

What year is your car?. The identifications of VIN tags are also explained in the front of the mechanical procedures books. Paint codes are stamped into the right upper hinge and vin tags. Also remember, it would not be unusual for there to be only one code, as if it was two-toned at the dealer?.
