I have a repro patent decal for the firewall of my 37 terraplane. I believe it goes in the engine compartment on the left side firewall. Can anyone tell me exactly where it goes, or better yet, post or send me a photo? Thanks.

I'm not sure what you're speaking of. To my knowledge there is no decal on the firewall. The only decal I know of is the one that goes on the inside of the glove box door. I believe that one gives the tire pressure and some other information. The only other plate or decal is the metal serial number plate that's riveted to the right front door post, visible when you open the front passenger door.

Thanks for your reply. My 37 was parked in a barn in 1951. When I pulled it out it had not been repainted and the decal was clearly visible and mostly readable. It has since been repainted and now that I have a decal I don't remember the exact location. K-GAP sells the decal. Their parts listing is as follows:

YEAR MODELS PART # DESCRIPTION
1937-42 Hudson-Terraplane 394 Patent Decal

I also have the serial tag, but nothing for the glove box door. Is that decal available anywhere?

Could this be the one of which you speak?

Again, I have never seen any decals on the firewalls any '37's I've looked at over the past 40 years, but possibly that's because they were either painted over or removed (or both).

The decal on the glove box door is similar to the following one (except that it has a sort of dark orange background);

Yes that's the general idea on the patent decal, although not exactly as I remember it. As I recall the lettering was red on a clear background so that the body color showed through, although I may be mistaken about that. Thanks for posting the photos.

I just spoke to Robbie Williams, whom I consider to be "Mister '37" since he has bought, sold and parted out more 1937 Hudsons and Terraplanes than most mortals. Robbie says he has never seen a '37 with a decal other than the one on the inside of the glove box door.

Well, this is resolved. We located a photo that the guys at the shop took before the car got new paint last year. We know this is an original you see in the photo, not a repro decal, as the car has been in my family since it was new and its history is well known. Thanks again for your input.
