Topic starter

I rewired the complete car with original type wiring from Rhode Island Wiring. I then installed Power Master ALT / GEN which is a one wire alternator that looks like a gen. I was on here reading about getting the gauges to work. After trying to use volt reducers and such other electrical devises with no luck. I tried straight 12 volt. It worked but I did not know how accurate they were. I wired in an isolated 6 volt battery and ran car until temp came up to normal. I shut off and ran straight 12 volts to it and it read exact same. I don't know how long the IVR will last but worry about it later if it goes bad.. I gutted out the original 6 volt voltage regulator and hook the 12 volt wires to it and jumper-ed them. It looks original. The starter was rebuilt and converted to 12 volts. Since no one makes a good aftermarket distributor and the conversions look cheap i went with all new quality tune up parts and points and put a voltage drop to 6 volt coil. It reads 8 volts going to coil. I also put a voltage "runtz" drop on the radio and it is at 8 volts. I put a "runtz" on the heater motor because at 12 volts it sounds like an airplane. The dash is easier to work on the second time you have to take it out to work behind. I also bought 40 amp 12 volt circuit breaker for accessories and a 12 volt flasher for blinker lights. The amp light works when it is hooked to the "Light" post on the ALT/ GEN......At 1200 rpm the battery is being charged at 14.45 volts. This the same thing I did to 37 Utility Coupe except the 37 loves the 6 volt starter. It fires right up.

Sounds like very good work, Al. Interesting with the instruments . . . some behave as yours did, mine read about 1/4 scale higher on 12v feeding the original IVR. I'd have that '37 starter changed over though . . . eventually you'll have damaged teeth on both the starter Bendix and the flywheel.
