Preston, it should be no problem at all. Just remember to set the voltage regulator higher so it's able to charge that battery. A little over 9v should do it.

And FYI, 8V Battery Chargers are available. They are rather compact. Using one for years now on my '53 SuperWasp.

I think Interstate Battery sells them and when I googled there appear to be more offerings today but I got mine in 2006 from BatteryStuff.com, PO Box 1703, Rogue River, Oregon 97537, 1-800-362-5397, Technical Help, 541-582-4521.
