First up. let me apologise for all these questions!
I am doing searches both here and the net but not coming up with info needed.

I can't find a clear picture of what the timing pointer looks like on a 262.
Are the timing marks lined up with where I've drawn a red line on this photo or is there some sort of bolt on pointer that lines up where the white line is?

Thanks and regards
Simon

Simon,
There is a metal tab that is held in place by a bolt in that area. I can see the bolt hole but looks like the tab is missing.
Timing marks are on the flywheel.
I just tried to scan page 3-42 of the 52 Mechanical procedure manual and for some reason can't attach the file for posting.

Assume this is it; generally problem with photo posts is the size; 800 x 600 is best. On most of mine I have to reduce by 50% then reduce that 50% by 50% and post that. This partial scan is really too small.

Where you have the red line is the motor pointer. Put a dab of white paint on the very end. Then paint the long mark on the flywheel and line it up with the white mark on the motor plate That is top dead center. Put the timing light pick up wire on number one spark plug wire and move distributor to line up marks. Vacuum advance line must be disconnected and engine idling at 500 RPM's. Best to set it at the small mark just before the long mark for today's gas. Walt.
